02. - 06.04.2012 Tioman Island, Malaysia

We took another bus to cross Malaysia from west to east and come to Mersing in the late afternoon time. The last boat to Tioman already had left and due to the Easter weekend we got recommended to book the ferry and the accommodation right away. We were a little skeptical, as often this is the way how you get ripped off. Somehow we still booked a ticket for the following morning and a bungalow as well. We found a cheap hostel for the night as well and went into town to find something to eat. When we came back we had a wonderful chat with a couple of guys from close to Prague. They shared some of their amazing travel experiences and gave us a map of Cambodia and pointed out a couple of places we had to see.

Our ferry brought us next day to the very last beach on the north west coast of the island. From there we walked to pretty much the very end of the beach to find our accommodation. I think it was just around where I stayed 12 years ago when I made a quick stop on my way home from Tasmania.

It didn't take long to find a cozy spot under a palm tree to rest for a little while before we headed out again to look for a place to go diving and a place for dinner.

The sunset was amazing and whilst we were on the beach we met some people and a chef from one of the restaurants so we ended up to have dinner together. The funny thing was that the black chef spoke perfect German with a little dialect from my area. He lived and worked in Germany for many years and had even his own restaurant in Bavaria. The Indian banana leaf dinner was amazing and the squid curry will always stay in our mind, as it was outstanding.

For the next day we met up with Dave again to go diving with BJ's divers. I first thought he would even go diving with his hat on, but he took it last minute off before hitting the water.

On the way to the dive spot we got accompanied by a family of dolphins, which was magical. They moved so fast and effortless through the water and had fun to swim next to the front of the boat.

The diving was beautiful and the amount of colorful fish and beautiful corals was amazing. The water was nice and warm, however the storms of the last view days didn't give us the best possible visibility. However, we still enjoyed the many dive throughs and walls we dived along. As soon as David came out of the water, he had his hat on again. So much diving makes you hungry and we got served a nice warm lunch by the crew at a beautiful location.

After letting the food settle a little bit I went snorkeling a little bit in the clear water.

Then we moved to the next dive spot, which they also called the "Swiss cheese" dive spot, as there were even more dive throughs. I love them!

We loved diving here, but two dives for the day were enough. The afternoon we did some snorkeling in front of our bungalow in the bay. The water was very shallow and warm like a bathtub.

Just when we planned to turn around, we sighted a turtle ahead of us. She glided majestically through the water. We got excited and felt very blessed that we managed to see one here.

For dinner we had turtle! It was delicious. Fresh from an open fire, roasted! Can't beat it together with a fresh, cold beer in the other hand whilst chewing the meat of the bones. (what? Oohhh, Chrisy just told me it was a chicken and not a turtle. Sorry for that!) we had a wonderful evening and enjoyed the romantic surrounding. It was an incredible time, again!
