We drove out of Auckland, direction south and as Rahel and Taylor were big Lord of the Ring fans they wanted to visit Hobbiton, the place were they filmed for the last three movies and where they film at the moment for the Hobbit movie.

We arrived in the very late afternoon and everything was closed but while we were at the location another tour returned and we spoke to the guide to find out more. The guide then told us that the tour is NZ$ 66 (US$ 60). We all were surprised of the high price. But as there was no tour today anymore anyway we wanted to find a camping area.

As we heard that you can do some wild camping we wanted to find some green and pitch up the tent. But it was very hard to find an area that was not fenced off for cattle or sheep.
After some twists and turns I spotted an suitable area and we started to set up everything when we heard a motorbike approaching with a man sitting on it who looked like Hagrid from the Harry movies, long hair and long, full beard. He yelled at us: "What the f... are you doing here, this is private property. ..." we apologized and the man calmed down and said, he would talk to his old man who is actually the owner. He drove away. We continued what ever we were doing before and five minutes later a pick up truck came on high speed and came to a stop with a queek in front of us. An angry farmer exited the car and shouted: "What the f... are you thinking you are doing here?" We apologized also to him, explained a bit and offered to pack our belongings together and leave. We started a conversation with him and he apologized for his behavior and explained he just wanted to have his say. He asked us where we were from and offered us to stay for the night or as long as we wanted. Robert and I slept well in the tent and the ladies less well in the car.
The next morning while we prepared breakfast we saw the pick up truck coming our way. This time the farmer was smiling and he brought his wife along. We had a lovely chat and they brought us some fresh eggs. While we were chatting, we were talking about honey. So they drove home and returned in no time to us to bring us a container and a squeeze bottle of honey. So nice!
We said our goodbyes, packed up and continued our trip. We decided not to visit Hobbiton as it was too expensive for us.
