16.03.2012 Mt. Field National Park, Tasmania, Australia

As one of our last stops on the west coast, we drove to the Mt. Field National park.

At all times of the year, this national park is spectacular to visit. The hiking treks are beautiful and lead through different types of forests.

The first part went through huge manfern trees to the Russell waterfall. It cascaded down over 3 steps.

Next we came to the horseshoe waterfall. The name was given for a purpose, and that wasn't that you will find many horses or their shoes in this area. Surrounded by beautiful ferns the green of the leaves gave this place a magical touch.

After that we climbed a little mountain to reach the tall tree walk. These are The second tallest hardwood trees in the world with up to 90 meters. The sound of the wind in the leaves and smell is incredible. We stayed for some time to soak the energy of the forest up and enjoy the atmosphere.

For the evening we drove closer to Hobart and slept next to a river. We had a born Austrian who grew up in Australia with us. The chicken were enjoying his bread whilst he was talking to us. He was a very animated elderly gentleman who loved bushwalking and so it came that we went for a walk and returned after the night already had taken over. All our fear that some redneck youngster would come to our camp area and spin around with their cars or make a lot of noise was not necessary and we had a good night rest. The river was calm welcome in the morning and the breakfast tasted especially well.
